Morning Briefing for pub, restaurant and food wervice operators

Thu 1st Oct 2015 - New Moon to launch pizzetteria concept
New Moon Pub Company to launch New York-influenced bar and pizzetteria concept in first venture with Star Pubs & Bars: New Moon Pub Company is to launch a New York-influenced bar and pizzetteria concept in its first venture with Star Pubs & Bars. The company, led by David Mooney and Paul Newman, will launch The Bronx at the start of November on the site of the former Bar 21 pub in Knutsford, Cheshire – just 100 metres from its Old Sessions House venue. The Bronx will have a menu of 12 pizzas – priced at £5 for one, £9 for two and £12 for three – and will serve cocktails, craft ales and a selection of wines. Mooney told Propel he was “extremely excited” about the new concept, which is the company’s eighth site. He said: “We’ve been working on it for two months and it’s got huge potential and can be rolled out. It won’t be a restaurant. People will eat at the bar and tables. It will have high and low furniture. It will have a DJ and be open to 3am. There will also be an area upstairs when people can go for a bit of privacy away from the DJ.” Mooney said the company would spend about £150,000 on the site, which would also become its new headquarters. He added: “I believe it will complement Old Sessions House. If you have got a great site and you have not got a concept then you find one. If there’s a pub in Knutsford it won’t stay empty for long. There’s nothing like what we are planning here. We’re grateful to the likes of Star Pubs & Bars. It’s enabled us to grow where we are at the moment.” Mooney said the company’s new pizza concept Cassa Matta, which it launched on the site of the Hanging Gate pub in Weaverham, Cheshire, last month was ready to be rolled out. He added: “I went in there the other night and had to eat off my knees sitting on a bar stool it was that busy. Last week the turnover was more than double of what the record was at the Hanging Gate.” Mooney also said the company looked set to expand its Beef & Pudding concept to Liverpool but the “site fell through”. However, the company is still on the look out for further sites for all its concepts. Mooney added: “It’s got to be right for Paul (Newman) and I going forward. It’s the same with funding. There are options springing up all over the place but we will do what it best for us.”
